Gartner has released its 2025 Healthcare Supply Chain Top 25 list, highlighting U.S. health systems that are improving performance, cutting costs, and using technology more effectively across their supply chains.

AdventHealth landed the No. 1 spot for the second year in a row. Stanford Medicine, Bon Secours Mercy Health, Rush University System for Health, and Corewell Health rounded out the top five. Two major names made the list for the first time — NewYork-Presbyterian and Mass General Brigham.
The rankings focus on healthcare systems such as hospitals, not pharmaceutical or medical device companies, which are tracked separately in Gartner’s life sciences list.
Masters category marks long-term consistency
Intermountain Health, Mayo Clinic, and Cleveland Clinic kept their status in Gartner’s “Masters” category. This recognition is reserved for health systems that have landed in the top five at least seven times over the past 10 years. Intermountain and Mayo Clinic have now held that spot for eight straight years, while Cleveland Clinic earned it for the second time.

Why the rankings matter
“Healthcare supply chains are under pressure to deliver cost savings, improve resiliency, and implement AI to transform their operations,” said Salil Joshi, Senior Director Analyst in Gartner’s Supply Chain practice. “This year’s leaders demonstrated the power of leveraging technology, including AI-driven insights, to extend their span of control, strengthen clinical partnerships, and build smarter, more agile supply chains.”
Three Trends Shaping 2025
Gartner highlighted three major themes driving change across healthcare supply chains:
1. A renewed focus on cost control: Health systems are modeling the financial impact of trade shifts and tariff changes while diversifying their supplier base. Many are also centralizing operations through service centers and extending oversight into purchased services and pharmacy.
2. Faster digital adoption: More hospitals are using AI to handle routine work, predict risks, and surface insights through simple language queries. Robotic process automation, control towers, RFID tools, and ERP upgrades are helping improve visibility and reduce manual tasks.
3. Stronger ties between supply chain and clinical teams: Supply, cost, and clinical needs are becoming more aligned. Some providers are improving procedure card accuracy and reducing supplier variance and waste. Others are using analytics dashboards and governance models to improve compliance and connect cost to quality outcomes.
This is the 17th year of Gartner’s Healthcare Supply Chain Top 25 ranking, and the group says it expects even faster change ahead as AI becomes easier to use and labor pressures continue across the healthcare industry.
