India has expressed deep concern over recent attacks on energy installations in West Asia, deeming them unacceptable and destabilising for the global energy scenario.

New Delhi: India on Thursday said that recent attacks on energy installations in different locations across West Asia are deeply disturbing and only serve to further destabilise an already uncertain energy scenario for the world.

“The attacks are unacceptable and need to cease,” an MEA spokesperson said, without directly blaming Iran, which targeted several energy infrastructures in West Asia, including Qatar’s LNG (liquefied natural gas) hub of Ras Laffan, in retaliation to Israel’s strikes on Iran’s South Pars gas fields.

The spokesperson added that India had previously called for the avoidance of targeting civilian infrastructure, including energy facilities, across the region.

Describing the energy crisis caused by the West Asia conflict as a matter of concern, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that India has many more crude tankers coming in and is purchasing from various sources, including Russia. India will also purchase LPG from Russia as part of diversification, according to Jaiswal. LPG supplies to India have been impacted by the war in West Asia.

The MEA said 800 nationals have left Iran, returning via Armenia and Azerbaijan. Over 160 Indians from Iran have transited via Azerbaijan to date, while several others have transited via Armenia.
