New Delhi: Oil India Limited (OIL) has signed a 15-year Gas Sale and Purchase Agreement (GSPA) with North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) for the supply of 1.4 million metric standard cubic metres per day (MMSCMD) of natural gas to NEEPCO’s Assam Gas-Based Power Station (AGBPS) at Bokuloni in Dibrugarh district of Assam.
The new long-term agreement succeeds the previous 10-year arrangement between the two public sector enterprises, OIL said in a statement.
The agreement was signed by OIL Executive Director (Business Development) Ranjan Goswami and NEEPCO Executive Director (Operation & Maintenance) Bijit Kumar Goswami at the AGBPS office in Bokuloni, Dibrugarh.
AGBPS is the largest gas-based power station in Assam and plays an important role in meeting the region’s electricity demand. The extended-term agreement ensures continued fuel supply to the plant, supporting stable power generation in the Northeastern region.
“The signing of this extended-term agreement reaffirms OIL’s commitment and confidence in its strong reserve base and its capability to ensure sustained gas supply from its domestic sources,” the company said.
Through this partnership, OIL and NEEPCO aim to continue securing the power needs of Assam and the Northeast, strengthening regional energy security and supporting the vision of affordable and clean energy, the statement added.
OIL said as the anchor energy company of the region, it remains focused on expanding its upstream portfolio and contributing to India’s transition towards a gas-based economy.
