American Petroleum Institute (API) President and CEO Mike Sommers and American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) President and CEO Chet Thompson jointly issued statements on Friday as U.S. President Trump signed into law a series of bills overturning California’s electric vehicle mandates which prevented consumer vehicle choice.
“The President and Congress just delivered a major win for the American people by overturning California’s gas car ban and the state’s attempt to tell consumers what they can and can’t drive,” stated Sommers and Thompson.
“Today’s historic signing is critical for protecting U.S. families, manufacturing workers and our national security. We thank President Trump for keeping his promise to American voters to end these extreme and restrictive policies.”
Additionally, API’s Vice President of Downstream Policy, Will Hupman, issued a separate statement on Friday in response to the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) proposed renewable fuel standards.
“We thank EPA for releasing a timely proposal that will get the Renewable Fuel Standard program back on track and bring much-needed certainty to the marketplace,” said Hupman. “We look forward to reviewing the rule and working with the administration on an outcome that benefits all stakeholders and is in the best interest of American consumers.”
