The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) this week announced it has taken the first step in the Energy Department’s largest deregulatory effort in history, proposing the elimination or reduction of 47 regulations.
The U.S. DOE last month awarded a $1.4 billion contract to APTIM, BWX for management of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR)
Once finalized, the DOE promised, “these actions will save the American people an estimated $11 billion and cut more than 125,000 words from the Code of Federal Regulations.”
The DOE stated that the actions were taken “in accordance with President Donald Trump’s Executive Order, ‘Zero-Based Regulation to Unleash American Energy,’ advance President Trump’s promise to restore consumer freedom, lower costs and unleash American energy dominance.”
The list of 47 deregulatory actions published by the DOE includes “streamlining administrative procedures with respect to the import and export of natural gas,” and “rescinding reporting requirements, certification, independent verification, and DOE review for voluntary greenhouse gas reporting.”
The actions also include efforts for “streamlining the procedures for acquisition of petroleum for the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.”

“While it would normally take years for the Department of Energy to remove just a handful of regulations, the Trump Administration assembled a team working around the clock to reduce costs and deliver results for the American people in just over 110 days,” commented U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright.
