DNV to perform QA for two of UK’s first carbon capture and storage projects

DNV Inspection has secured a three-year contract to provide site inspection, quality assurance and quality control for the UK’s Net Zero Teesside Power (NZT Power) and the Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP), both of which are based in the North East of England.

This includes the inspection of equipment and materials, ensuring they meet stringent industry standards, and providing on-the-ground support as the projects progress from construction to operation.

NEP, an incorporated joint venture partnership between bp, Equinor and TotalEnergies, is developing the onshore and offshore infrastructure needed to transport CO2 from carbon capture projects across Teesside and the Humber – collectively known as the East Coast Cluster – to secure storage sites under the North Sea.

Meanwhile, NZT Power, a joint venture between bp and Equinor, aims to be the first gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage. Once operational, NZT Power’s combined cycle gas turbine electricity generating station could produce up to 742 megawatts of flexible, dispatchable, low-carbon power, equivalent to the average annual electricity requirements of more than 1 million UK homes.

“Being selected to support both Net Zero Teesside Power and the Northern Endurance Partnership marks a significant milestone in DNV Inspection’s growth within the UK’s low-carbon energy sector,” said Mariagrazia Silva, Regional Operations Manager Europe at DNV Inspection. “These CCS projects are critical not only for achieving the UK’s net zero targets, but also for unlocking local employment opportunities in the Teesside area and beyond.”

“Our role in delivering site inspection, quality assurance, and quality control services is fundamental to ensuring these complex developments meet the highest standards of safety, efficiency and performance. With our global expertise and strong local presence in the UK, DNV is proud to strengthen these project teams and help bring this vital infrastructure to life,” said Daniela Ndreu, Service Manager UK.

DNV Inspection’s work on the NZT Power and NEP projects builds on its accelerating growth in the UK low-carbon space, following a run of recent contract wins.

“Since we formally entered the low-carbon energy market in 2021, we have rapidly expanded our capabilities to support the energy transition, and these contracts reflect the trust that major industry players are placing in DNV to help future-proof the infrastructure underpinning net zero,” said Mohamed Houari, Global Managing Director of DNV Inspection.

“Our quality assurance services span the full low-carbon energy value chain, including offshore wind and the low-carbon molecule space, showcasing the breadth and depth of our offering. As the low-carbon market continues to gather momentum, DNV Inspection is growing in tandem as a partner with global energy leaders, strengthening their teams with our resources and shaping the next phase of energy with confidence and credibility.”
