Food logistics company Nagel-Group has just expanded its delivery fleet with 20 new electric trucks, with the first vehicles already in operation. The company is also investing in truck charging infrastructure, with fast charging stations now open in four locations.
The additions include six Volvo FH Aero Electric and 14 Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 trucks, which will be used for food transportation on both regional and long-range jobs.
It’s part of a wider electrification initiative by Nagel-Group, which began using electric semi-trailer trucks back in 2022. The roll-out of the electric trucks will be staggered throughout 2025; the first vehicles already hit the road in March, with additional deliveries scheduled in Q2 and at the end of the year.
The six Volvo trucks will join the company’s fleet at its Bochum, Borgholzhausen and Hamburg sites, and are expected to cover around 150,000km per year of regional deliveries with a range of around 300km per full charge. Meanwhile, the Mercedes-Benz models will be used at the Borgholzhausen, Hamburg, Bochum, Gotha and Groß-Gerau sites, with a range of around 500km per charge.
Additionally, Nagel-Group states it is investing in charging infrastructure to support the use of the new vehicles. It says it has installed 400kW charging stations with a total of 12 charging points at four different locations. These are supplied by solar panels and utilise intelligent charging and load management. In 2025, the company also plans to install a battery storage system for its photovoltaic roof system at its Bochum site, which it says will not only supply its EVs but also its cooling systems.
Carsten Taucke, CEO of Nagel-Group, said: “Our first electric semi-trailer trucks have been in use since 2022. In introducing the new vehicles, we aim to integrate more e-trucks into our transport network to start replacing conventional diesel vehicles.”
