XCharge to showcase improved microgrid solution in Munich

The charge point manufacturer will display its new generation of the Net Zero Series (NZS GEN2) at the Power2Drive in Munich at the beginning of May. It combines battery storage, photovoltaic integration and fast charging in a single system.

According to XCharge, the system has already been deployed to various locations. It features an EV charger that can deliver up to 194 kW and that is paired with a battery with an energy content of 233 kWh. That can be increased to 466 kWh, the firm states.

Another upgrade is that the system can now charge bidirectionally to ‘flexibly distribute energy between the battery, grid and consumers’. It supplies energy to offices and electric vehicles during the day. At night, it takes energy from the grid to charge the battery, minimising the effect on the grid and optimising energy cost. As Xcharge points out, the battery can also be charged using energy from a company’s own PV system.

“All the improvements we have implemented are a direct result of feedback from our charge point operators. By working closely with our partners, everyone will benefit in the future from well-thought-out, market-driven features,” explains Albina Iljasov, Head of Europe at XCharge. ”Our charging solutions are designed to deliver long-term value through future-proof features, robust design and lower operating costs.”

The first generation of the Net Zero Series has been installed at numerous locations throughout Europe, for instance in Spain, Portugal, and Italy. The charging solution was first presented in 2022.

And the infrastructure manufacturer will bring another update to Munich, Germany: its C7 DC charging station has also received a facelift. “New features include improved cable management that prevents damage and makes it easier to use. A colour-coded LED display on the charging plug shows the status at a glance – free, occupied or faulty,” the company states. Moreover, it comes with an improved user interface that shows charging power and charging progress in real time.

It now also supports up to four SIM cards – two active ones and two as a backup – to ensure a stable connection in areas with weak reception. “The charging station is prepared for plug & charge according to ISO 15118 and communicates via OCPP 2.0.1,” XCharge emphasises in its press release. It will even be possible to preconditionally charge electric buses.

Last year at the Power2Drive, XCharge presented a ‘slim’ version of its C7 fast-charging stations. It also had the familiar larger variant of the C7 with up to 400 kW and the Net Zero Series battery-supported fast charging station on show at the Power2Drive in Munich.
