Mars Signs One of its Largest Renewable Energy Purchase Deals in Europe

Snacking, food, and pet care products provider Mars announced that it has signed a new contract with investment manager Foresight Energy Infrastructure Partners to secure the majority of the output of a large-scale wind farm in Sweden, marking one of the company’s largest renewable energy commitments in Europe to date.

The new agreement forms Mars’ second European contract under its Renewable Acceleration program, aimed at accelerating the shift from fossil fuels to clean energy across the company’s operations and its global value chain.  Mars announced the launch of the program in 2025, with Enel North America as its first energy partner, followed by a deal with renewable energy developer GoldenPeaks Capital to launch more than 100 new solar projects in Poland.

Under the new agreement, Mars has secured 70% of the annual production from the newly commissioned 277 MW Kölvallen Wind Farm in Sweden, which will provide the company with approximately 670 GWh of clean electricity each year.

According to Mars, its commitment helped enable Foresight to move forward with construction and financing of the project.

Richard Thompson, Partner, Foresight Group said:

“We are delighted to partner with Mars on the delivery of one of Europe’s most advanced onshore wind developments. Kölvallen will provide meaningful environmental and economic benefits for decades to come, from substantial emissions reductions to local investment and skilled job creation. We’re proud to work alongside Mars in setting a new benchmark for impactful, community focused renewable energy projects.”

Mars set a goal in 2023 to cut carbon emissions across its full value chain in half by 2030, with initiatives planned to reach its target including transitioning to renewable energy, as well as redesigning supply chains to stop deforestation, working with farmers on regenerative agriculture and other smart agriculture initiatives, and improving and optimizing logistics. The company announced in September 2025 that it achieved 100% renewable energy in its Snacking factories in Europe. According to a recent report by BloombergNEF, Mars was a top-5 global purchaser of clean energy in 2025.

Kevin Rabinovitch, Global VP Sustainability at Mars, said:

“Our commitment to partner with Foresight Group in this Swedish wind farm is a clear demonstration of our ambition to support the renewable energy transition across Europe. Through the Renewable Acceleration Program, we are making renewables the standard for our entire value chain, driving impactful change not only for our business but also for the communities and regions where we operate.”
