(WO) – Aquaterra Energy has secured a multi-year contract to provide subsea well access technology supporting intervention and abandonment operations across 11 wells offshore Spain.

Under the agreement with an international offshore services provider, the company will supply a riser-based subsea well access system for a campaign to be executed from a semi-submersible vessel. The scope includes delivery of a 7⅜-in. ID, 5,000-psi-rated intervention riser system equipped with proprietary AQC-CW connectors and associated interface equipment to support a series of subsea abandonment operations.
Aquaterra said its integrated riser solution will interface with subsea pressure control systems to enable intervention and plug-and-abandonment (P&A) activities across the Spanish offshore wells. The contract reflects growing demand for specialized well access and intervention technologies as mature offshore assets across Europe transition into late-life operations and decommissioning.
Well plugging and abandonment remains a major driver of offshore decommissioning activity across the region. Industry data indicates that P&A accounts for a significant share of overall decommissioning spend in mature basins such as the North Sea, with similar trends emerging in other European offshore areas as aging subsea wells move toward abandonment.
Aquaterra said the project supports its strategy to expand its presence in well intervention and decommissioning markets, where operators are increasingly seeking integrated technical solutions to manage complex late-life offshore operations.
