Do the AirPods Pro 2 need a case cover?
The latest version of the AirPods Pro 2 earbuds comes with a USB-C charging case (a version with a Lightning case was previously sold but is no longer available). Some will find the included charging case sufficient for preventing lost or damaged earbuds. However, adding a case cover helps prevent damage to the charger and offers another layer of protection for the buds. Some add-on cases also provide more substantial water resistance, the convenience of clips or lanyards, and different colors to bring more personality to your AirPods Pro.
Do the AirPods Pro 2 use a different charging case than the first-gen model?
The charging case for Apple’s second-generation AirPods Pro differs slightly from the first-generation one. The newest model switches to a USB-C charging port rather than Lightning and has IPX4 weather resistance.
However, the first- and second-gen cases are the same size, and the ports are in the same location. As such, many of the same protective covers can be used for both models. Be sure to check the manufacturer’s list of compatible devices before buying a case cover.
Can AirPods Pro 2 cases be used for the AirPods Pro 3?

What is a MagSafe case?
A MagSafe case uses built-in magnets to secure it in place when paired with a MagSafe charging pad. The AirPods Pro 2 include a MagSafe-compatible charging case. However, some thick protective case covers can prevent the magnets from working. So, if MagSafe charging is important to you, be sure to pick a case cover listed as being MagSafe compatible.
Can you buy a replacement AirPods Pro 2 charging case?
The cases we recommend above are protective covers designed to be used over the charging case that Apple already includes with its AirPods Pro. But if you lose or damage the charging case itself, you can purchase a new one through Apple’s Repair and Service platform. At the time of writing, a replacement charging case costs $99.
You can also buy third-party charging cases, but due to inconsistent quality, we recommend sticking with a replacement directly from Apple and just using case covers for further protection and style.
Can AirPods Pro 2 cases be used for standard AirPods?
