H&M Secures Renewable Power From Sweden’s Largest Solar Farm

Hultsfred Solar Farm begins delivering 100 MWp of renewable electricity to H&M under a long-term PPA

Deal advances H&M’s target of sourcing 100% renewable electricity by 2030

Project underscores Sweden’s ability to scale unsubsidised solar at speed

Sweden’s largest solar power plant, the 100 MWp Hultsfred Solar Farm, is now delivering renewable energy to H&M Group through a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA).

Located on the grounds of Hultsfred Airport in Småland, the farm features 174,000 low-carbon panels spread across 130 hectares. It will generate around 100 GWh annually—equivalent to powering 18,000 Swedish homes. Under the PPA, H&M will receive 95% of the plant’s output along with guarantees of origin, a key step in the company’s 2030 renewable electricity goal.

“As a global fashion player, we have both the power and the responsibility to drive the energy transition, and with the solar park in Hultsfred, we are taking another step on that journey,” said Marcus Hartmann, Head of Sustainability for H&M Northern Europe. “Through our collaboration with Alight and Neoen, we are creating new renewable electricity capacity in Sweden, which strengthens the supply of renewable energy and brings us closer to our goal of a circular business with net zero emissions. This is not just an investment in our business – it is an investment in the future.”

The project was developed by Alight and Neoen, who hailed the commissioning as a milestone for unsubsidised large-scale solar in Sweden.

“Bringing this solar farm into operation with our partner Neoen and PPA offtaker H&M represents a milestone for us and demonstrates that the Swedish market can deliver large-scale, unsubsidised renewable energy fast. It’s a landmark achievement in Swedish renewable power production,” said Warren Campbell, CEO at Alight.

Laetitia Prot, Managing Director for Neoen Sweden, added: “I would like to congratulate our partners Alight, H&M, Equans & Solkompaniet, E.on, and the municipality for this great achievement. Hultsfred solar farm is our fourth asset entering into operation in Sweden… With these complementary three technologies at scale, we are actively contributing to Sweden’s competitive and clean energy transition.”

The Hultsfred plant marks a decisive shift for Sweden’s energy mix—showing how corporate buyers like H&M can accelerate grid decarbonization while de-risking projects through long-term agreements.
