Assent Launches New EU Deforestation Regulation Compliance Solution

Supply chain sustainability management solutions provider Assent announced the launch of its new EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) solution, aimed at enabling manufacturers to comply with the due diligence requirements of the EU’s new law ensuring that products no longer contribute to deforestation and forest degradation globally.

The EUDR was initially introduced by the EU Commission in November 2021, with measures aimed at effectively banning deforestation-linked products on the EU market, and establishing strong compliance requirements for companies providing or utilizing key commodities and products such as palm oil, beef, timber, coffee, cocoa, rubber and soy, in addition to some of their derived products, such as leather, chocolate, tires, or furniture.

Under the new rules, companies that want to place relevant products on the EU market, or export them, will face mandatory due diligence rules, including a requirement to trace the products back to the plot of land where it was produced, to prove that the products were produced on land that was not subject to deforestation after 2020, and are compliant with all relevant applicable laws in force in the country of production.

The regulation entered into effect in June 2023, and will become applicable at the end of 2025, requiring large and medium companies to begin providing due diligence statements.

Ottawa-based Assent provides systems to help manufacturers collect and manage the supply chain data needed to meet environmentally and socially responsible product standards and regulations. According to Assent, the new solution is designed to help manufacturers struggling to document and report on EUDR regulation compliance ahead of the December 2025 deadline.

According to Assent, key capabilities of the new solution include identification of parts and suppliers impacted by the new regulation, mapping part to affected commodities, engaging with hard-to-reach suppliers in multiple languages, collecting geolocation data, and generation of compliant EUDR due diligence statements.

Catherine Cormier, Chief Product Officer at Assent, said:

“With this product launch, we are continuing to help manufacturers reduce operational risk and build stronger, more transparent supply chains that stand up to regulatory and partner scrutiny.”
