JLR First to Launch Tyres with Over 70% Renewable and Recycled Materials Across Luxury Fleet

Industry First: JLR will be the first automaker to introduce tyres containing over 70% renewable and recycled content at scale.

Strategic Partnership: Developed with Pirelli, the new P Zero tyres feature materials like silica from rice husks, recycled steel, and plant-based resins.

Scalable Rollout: Tyres will debut on select 22″ Range Rover models this year, with plans to expand across JLR’s wider vehicle portfolio.

JLR has become the first in the global automotive industry to commit to using tyres composed of more than 70% renewable and recycled materials on its vehicles—marking a major step forward in sustainable design innovation at scale.

Developed specifically for JLR by tyre manufacturer Pirelli, the new ‘P Zero’ tyres combine durability and performance with a high proportion of bio-based and recycled components. These include silica sourced from rice husks, plant-derived resins, recycled carbon black from end-of-life tyres, and recycled steel to enhance strength and handling.

“Achieving a more sustainable composition without compromising quality and performance is a challenge because of the complexity of tyre design,” said Reuben Chorley, Sustainable Industrial Operations Director at JLR. “But working closely with Pirelli and leveraging both companies’ expertise in procurement and engineering, we have been able to deliver this industry first.”

The tyres will debut later this year on select New Range Rover models with 22-inch wheels and are slated to expand across JLR’s portfolio, which includes Range Rover, Defender, Discovery, and Jaguar vehicles.

In addition to replacing fossil-based polymers with plant-derived alternatives such as used cooking oils and agricultural by-products, the tyres incorporate FSC™ (Forest Stewardship Council™)-certified natural rubber. This follows JLR’s global-first commitment last year to source FSC-certified rubber across all its models—ensuring responsible sourcing within its supply chain.

“All bio and recycled materials used will be third-party certified to verify both quantity and quality,” JLR noted, reinforcing the company’s commitment to transparency and traceability.

The initiative underscores the shared goal between JLR and Pirelli to reach 100% renewable and recycled content in future tyre designs, without compromising safety, performance, or environmental integrity.

“This is another example of how JLR is leading on sustainable design innovation in collaboration with its supply chain partners to deliver at scale, while reducing the environmental impact of our products,” the company stated.
