Rock band Coldplay announced that it will re-release each of its albums on “EcoRecords” made from recycled plastic bottles.
The band said that the move forms part of its sustainability mission, and its efforts to make music more sustainable, including cutting the carbon footprint of its ‘Music Of The Spheres World Tour’ by 59% to date. The band’s most recent album, Moon Music, was already released on 100% recycled PET EcoRecords.
EcoRecords, which sound and look the same as traditional vinyl records are manufactured using 100% recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET), which is lightweight and easily recyclable, contributing to reduced emissions and end-of-life environmental impact.
Each 140g injection-moulded LP is made from, on average, nine recycled PET plastic bottles, recovered through post-consumer recycling (PCR), where they are cleaned, processed into small pellets and then molded into new items. Coldplay said that it has chosen to use only recycled PET (rPET) for its EcoRecord products.
