The pilot will test SBTi’s updated Corporate Net-Zero Standard V2 for scientific rigor and practical business use.

Open to companies of all sizes and sectors globally, the two-phase pilot will collect real-world feedback and identify implementation challenges.

Phase 1 survey runs from June 16 to August 15, 2025, offering companies a chance to shape the future of corporate climate standards.

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has launched a global pilot to test its draft Corporate Net-Zero Standard V2, calling on companies of all sizes and geographies to participate. The effort aims to ensure the revised Standard is both scientifically sound and practically applicable in real-world business contexts.

Since its release in 2021, the original Corporate Net-Zero Standard has become the global benchmark for credible, science-based net-zero targets—now supporting over 1,850 companies worldwide. The new version seeks to expand that impact by accelerating corporate emissions reduction from 2026 onward.

Alberto Carrillo Pineda, Chief Technical Officer at SBTi, said:

“After seeing an impressive level of engagement across the ecosystem in the public consultation on the first draft Corporate Net-Zero Standard V2, pilot testing is the next stage where we will gather more practical, first-hand insights.”

The pilot is structured in two phases:

Phase One: A wide-reaching survey open to all companies to gather feedback and gauge interest for Phase Two.

Phase Two: A practical trial where selected companies will apply the near-final draft or parts of it using real data. This will validate assumptions, test feasibility, and refine the methodology.

The pilot survey is open from June 16 to August 15, 2025. Companies interested in shaping the future of corporate climate leadership are encouraged to complete the Corporate Net-Zero Standard V2 Pilot Test Phase 1 Survey, available now.

“Companies of all sizes, sectors, and regions participating will be an invaluable resource, providing us with a diverse evidence base that will mean that the final draft Standard is practical for businesses and ignites even more impactful corporate climate action,” Carrillo Pineda added.

Further details—including objectives, structure, and selection criteria—are outlined in the official Terms of Reference.
