New Delhi: LPG sales by public sector oil marketing companies grew 5.1 per cent year-on-year to nearly 31.2 million metric tonnes (MMT) in FY 2024-25, with 43.6 lakh new domestic customers added during the period, according to the LPG Profile Report released by the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC).
As on April 1, 2025, the total number of active domestic LPG customers served by Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) stood at 32.97 crore. These customers were served by a network of 25,542 LPG distributors.
The report noted that 85 new distributorships were added during the financial year. The total distributor base as on April 1, 2025 comprised 7,925 Shehri Vitraks, 3,774 Rurban Vitraks, 11,823 Gramin Vitraks, and 2,044 Durgam Kshetriya Vitraks across the country.
About 88.3 per cent of the LPG sales in FY25 were in the domestic sector. The three OMCs collectively operated 211 bottling plants with a total rated capacity of 23.02 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA).
The report stated that gross LPG tankage across India stood at approximately 1,339 thousand metric tonnes (TMT), equivalent to 16 days of cover based on an average daily consumption of 85.4 TMT.
A total of 440 Auto LPG Dispensing Stations (ALDS) were operational across the country. Auto LPG sales amounted to 73.2 TMT in FY25, with 83.6 per cent of the volume recorded in the southern region.
As on April 1, 2025, 10.33 crore beneficiaries had been covered under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) since its launch in May 2016. The eastern region accounted for the highest share of connections at 32.4 per cent, followed by northern (29.7 per cent), western (21.5 per cent), southern (10.5 per cent), and north-eastern (6.0 per cent) regions.
A total of 75.1 lakh connections had been issued under the PMUY-II extended scheme as of April 1, 2025.
