Emerson has launched AspenTech Subsurface Intelligence™ (ASI), a new AI-powered, cloud-native platform designed to transform upstream decision making and collaboration across the oil and gas industry.
ASI operates on the industry-standard OSDU® Data Platform, integrating domain-specific AI agents to automate workflows, break down silos between disciplines, and improve access to subsurface data. The platform is aimed at helping operators accelerate investment decisions, optimize production, and maximize returns across the exploration and production (E&P) lifecycle.
“Subsurface teams face growing complexity in making fast, effective decisions,” said Dr. Vikas Dhole, senior vice president of modeling and optimization at Emerson’s Aspen Technology business. “ASI enhances collaboration across disciplines and geographies, providing AI-driven guidance to improve agility, efficiency, and confidence in upstream operations.”
The system features Aspen Virtual Advisor, an embedded AI assistant that supports decision making and helps new professionals handle drilling, exploration, and production challenges. With an open and scalable architecture, ASI integrates with Emerson’s Subsurface Science & Engineering portfolio and third-party applications, allowing companies to leverage prior technology investments while lowering operating costs.
Emerson said ASI’s launch aligns with industry efforts to accelerate digital transformation in upstream oil and gas by driving faster insights, improving interoperability, and enabling a new generation of workers to meet evolving energy demands.
