ICVCM endorses Verra’s biochar and improved forest management (IFM) methodologies as meeting Core Carbon Principles for scientific rigor and environmental integrity. Biochar methodology (VM0044) locks carbon away for centuries through responsible production and use in soil and durable products. IFM methodology (VM0045) pioneers the use of dynamic baselines from real-world forest inventory data, replacing static models. Verra’s latest win in the voluntary carbon market comes as the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) approves two of its methodologies — VM0044 Biochar Utilization in Soil and Non-Soil Applications, v1.2, and VM0045 Improved Forest Management Using Dynamic Matched Baselines from…
Oil News: Technical Pressure on Crude Oil Below Key Averages as Trump‑Putin Summit Looms
At 12:01 GMT, Light Crude Oil futures are trading $62.99, up $0.34 or +0.54%. Will U.S. Tariffs on Russian Oil Buyers Upend Supply Chains? Trump’s threat of secondary tariffs on countries purchasing Russian crude—primarily China and India—has raised the risk premium on oil. Analysts at Rystad Energy noted that any outcome tightening Russian oil flows would surprise markets and potentially lift prices. However, others remain skeptical. “Tariffs that drive prices higher risk undermining U.S. domestic goals, and Trump knows it,” said PVM analyst John Evans, signaling the market’s hesitation to price in immediate action. Still, the uncertainty around Friday’s summit…

Guest Post: Telling Oil and Gas Giants to Ditch Fossil Fuels is the Wrong Approach to Decarbonization
By: Scott Lane, Founder & CEO of Speeki Everyone working in sustainability wants an immediate end to oil and gas consumption – and so regulators and climate initiatives demand that fossil fuel giants immediately halt their production. This is a naive knee-jerk reaction to a complex, intractable problem. Regulators and climate initiatives need to get more tactical. My case in point: the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) demanded last month that oil and gas companies participating in their emission standard cease all new development of oil and gas fields. What happened? Shell and others walked away. SBTi announced the emission standard…
