Vector starts series production of MCS communication controller

German software company Vector has begun series production of its vSECC.MCS controller for the Megawatt Charging System, targeting fast-charging infrastructure for heavy-duty electric vehicles. The solution supports up to 3.75 MW charging and is designed to enable efficient long-haul electrification.

Vector Informatik has launched its vSECC.MCS communication controller into series production, marking a key milestone in enabling Megawatt Charging Systems (MCS) for heavy-duty electric transport. First unveiled at Power2Drive 2025, the controller is now available to infrastructure manufacturers developing MCS-based solutions.

With battery-electric trucks requiring high charging capacities during limited downtimes, robust vehicle-to-charger communication is essential, the company states. Vector’s controller manages this interface, supporting up to 3.75 megawatts of power – enough to charge a typical electric truck to 80 per cent in around 45 minutes. Vector further emphasises that the controller uses Ethernet communication based on ISO 15118-20 and complies with IEC TS 63379 for connector systems. Backward compatibility with the Combined Charging System (CCS) is also included, allowing dual-vehicle charging at one station.

The product has already undergone a year of field-testing under real-world conditions with pilot customers. Final prototypes are said to have passed electromagnetic compatibility tests, and first deliveries are expected in 2025. “Our development focused on robust communication, seamless system integration, and fast availability,” said Dr Omar Abu Mohareb, Product Manager at Vector. “Thanks to close collaboration with pilot customers, we were able to tailor the product closely to real-world requirements.”

Futhermore, the company points out that the vSECC.MCS is built on the same hardware and firmware platform as Vector’s established CCS controller, enabling rapid development of new systems and integration into existing designs. It is part of Vector’s broader electric mobility portfolio, which includes controllers for wallboxes and charging stations, the vCharM load management system, and protocol libraries for grid-friendly charging implementation.
