(Bloomberg) — Ukraine attacked Lukoil PJSC’s offshore drilling platform at Filanovsky field in the Caspian Sea, according to the country’s General Staff.
The assault took place on Dec. 19 and the platform’s operational capability and the extent of the damage are being assessed, the military authority said in a Telegram statement on Saturday.
A Russian military ship patrolling the Caspian Sea near the platform was also hit.
Bloomberg couldn’t independently verify the information, and Lukoil didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
Earlier this week, Ukrainian drones attacked Lukoil’s Grayfer field in the Caspian Sea, damaging an offshore gas platform.
Kyiv has been intensifying strikes on Russian energy assets including refineries, sea terminals, platforms and tankers in an effort to reduce the revenue that funds Moscow’s war. The Kremlin’s military forces have also been striking infrastructure in Ukraine as colder temperatures set in.
Late Friday, Russia hit Ukraine’s southern port city of Odesa, killing at least seven people, Ukraine Vice Prime Minister Oleksiy Kuleba said on Telegram. A ballistic missile damaged port infrastructure.
Kremlin envoy Kirill Dmitriev is set to visit Miami this weekend to meet with US officials for discussions on a potential peace deal.
