The UK has launched a new grant scheme to help fund the installation of electric vehicle charging infrastructure at fleet depots. The Depot Charging Scheme officially opened on 16 July 2025 and runs until November.
According to the initiators, the grant aims to support public and private sector operators in covering the costs of preparing depot sites for battery-electric vans, HGVs, and coaches. Eligible applicants can apply for up to £1 million in funding, covering up to 75% of the costs associated with charge point installation and related civil works.
The scheme applies across the UK, excluding the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, and will run until 28 November 2025, or the funding is exhausted.
In order to qualify, applicants must be registered UK fleet operators with at least one year of operating history, as well as commit to installing the charging infrastructure in question by 31 March 2026. Having the permissions to build on the site, as well as sufficient grid capacity, is also required, as well as making operators responsible to “Ensure commercial vehicles are the primary users of the funded infrastructure.”
