Toyota has updated its all-electric SUV for 2026 in the US, dropping the ‘4X’ from its name while introducing faster charging, a longer range of up to 314 miles, and improved performance. The model will reach dealerships across the US in the second half of 2025.
The most notable change is the increase in driving range, with the new bZ capable of up to 314 miles (EPA figures pending) in the XLE FWD Plus variant, thanks to a larger 74.7-kWh lithium-ion battery. Other battery options include a 57.7-kWh pack, bringing the entry-level model’s range to around 236 miles.
Charging efficiency has been optimised further with a new battery pre-conditioning feature, activated via navigation settings to prepare the pack for high-speed charging en route to a station — a key advantage in colder climates. AC charging capacity has also been raised to 11 kW. Toyota has also improved charging speeds with the adoption of the North American Charging Standard (NACS) port and added Plug & Charge functionality for seamless payment and authentication.
Performance has been significantly enhanced, particularly in the all-wheel-drive variants, which now deliver up to 338 hp (about 252 kW). That is a 50% increase over the previous generation, enabling a 0–60 mph sprint in less than five seconds. Front-wheel-drive versions benefit too, with outputs up to 221 hp (about 164 kW). Efficiency gains have been supported by updated eAxles using silicon carbide semiconductors for improved power density and thermal performance.
The 2026 bZ features a sleeker, more aerodynamic exterior, with design refinements to the front fascia and lighting elements, including new colour-matched overfenders. The interior benefits from a redesigned dashboard, a 14-inch touchscreen, and up to 64 ambient lighting colour options. Dual wireless charging pads and a reconfigured console reflect Toyota’s push toward a more premium EV experience.
Safety and driver assistance remain central to the bZ’s proposition. The model includes Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 as standard, bringing lane-keeping assist, radar-guided cruise control, and a wide suite of collision avoidance technologies. Limited trims add features like Traffic Jam Assist and a 360-degree camera system.
The 2026 bZ will be available in both FWD and AWD, with trim levels including XLE and Limited. As mentioned above, the new model year is expected to arrive at dealerships in the second half of this year. Pricing for the North American market is expected to be confirmed closer to launch.
