Terradot Acquires Carbon Removal Peer Eion

Enhanced rock weathering (ERW) startup Terradot announced that it has acquired the assets of ERW company Eion, with the purchase aimed at strengthening and expanding Terradot’s carbon removal platform.

Founded in 2022, US-based Terradot provides a carbon removal solution based on transforming the natural process of rock weathering. The company’s solution speeds up the natural process through which CO₂ from rainwater is locked into rocks over time by crushing basalt rock and spreading it over vast areas of farmland, with the additional benefit of improving soil health at the same time. ERW is emerging as a highly scalable climate solution that may ultimately become a significant source of durable, long-term carbon removal.

According to the company, the acquisition expands its portfolio to include olivine-based operations in the U.S., alongside wits basalt-based deployment in Brazil, creating a more resilient delivery profile across different soils, supply chains, and growing seasons.

James Kanoff, CEO of Terradot, said:

“ERW is becoming a critical pathway for durable carbon removal, and the market is moving from pilots to industrialized programs built to deliver at scale. Integrating Eion’s olivine deployments into the Terradot platform pairs proven field execution with best-in-class science and expands a diversified portfolio across the U.S. and Brazil. The result is a more delivery-ready and more financeable platform that strengthens execution across our existing projects and gives long-term buyers greater confidence as we scale.”

Eion has developed and patented measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) for carbon dioxide removal through ERW, with projects structured through partnerships with farmers and local operators. The combined platform is expected to support greater on-farm participation and create durable demand for local services such as logistics, spreading, and field operations, the company said.

Eion’s contracts for more than 100,000 carbon removal credits are included in the agreement. Together with Terradot’s existing carbon removal contracts totaling over 300,000 tons with companies including Microsoft and Frontier, the combined platform represents one of the largest contracted ERW portfolios in the market.

Ana Pavlovic Hans, CEO of Eion, said:

“Joining Terradot continues Eion’s work and makes us more execution-ready from day one by bringing experienced operators, established field workflows, and farmer partnerships onto Terradot’s scaling platform. Together, we can move faster in deployment, raise the bar for credible ERW at scale, and expand opportunities for farmers and rural communities.”
