(WO) – Sercel has been awarded a major contract by India’s Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) to supply a large-scale 528 cable-based land seismic acquisition system, marking one of the region’s largest deployments of the new-generation technology to date.
The order includes three Sercel 528 acquisition systems totaling 24,000 channels and 24,000 SG-5 geophones, with delivery scheduled before the end of 2025. ONGC plans to deploy the equipment on oil and gas exploration surveys across India’s complex and remote terrain during the 2026 acquisition season, as the company ramps up its nationwide hydrocarbon appraisal program.
Building on the commercial success of the 528 system since its 2024 launch, the contract reflects growing industry demand for its operational flexibility, lower power consumption, and lightweight design. The scalable system can be adapted to diverse terrain and survey configurations, while Sercel’s high-sensitivity SG-5 geophones are engineered for superior low-frequency performance and signal fidelity — critical for achieving high-resolution seismic imaging in challenging onshore environments.
“We are proud to support ONGC’s exploration projects with our advanced 528 cable-based system,” said Jérôme Denigot, CEO of Sercel. “This contract highlights the confidence our customers place in our technology, which is robust, reliable, and increases productivity even in the most complex operational settings. With this latest success, Sercel continues to expand its footprint across key energy markets, reaffirming its position as a global leader in geophysical sensing solutions.”
The contract reinforces Sercel’s strategic expansion in Asia, following a series of global orders for its 528 system. The company said its technology advances are helping exploration operators worldwide optimize survey efficiency while reducing environmental impact through lower power usage and lighter field infrastructure.
