$610M Deal Expands Schroders’ Renewable Portfolio: Schroders Greencoat strengthens its renewable asset base with a stake in the 389 MW West of Duddon Sands offshore wind farm.
Ørsted Unlocks Capital for 8 GW Build-Out: The divestment supports Ørsted’s self-funded pipeline to nearly double its offshore wind capacity.
Partnership Model Reinforced: The transaction deepens an established relationship between Schroders Greencoat and Ørsted, with five joint wind projects now in operation.
Schroders Greencoat, the renewable infrastructure investment arm of Schroders Capital, has acquired a 24.5% stake in the UK’s West of Duddon Sands offshore wind farm from Ørsted for £456.1 million (approx. USD $610 million). The deal closed on April 30, 2025.
Located 14 km off the UK’s west coast, the 389 MW wind farm has been operational since 2014. Ørsted retains a 25.5% interest and continues to operate the site under its existing agreement.
“Farm-downs and partnerships are an integral part of Ørsted’s business model, and we’re pleased to expand our partnership with Schroders Greencoat,” said Trond Westlie, Group CFO of Ørsted.

This transaction supports Ørsted’s strategic capital recycling plan. The company is currently executing a self-funded offshore wind construction program exceeding 8 GW—set to nearly double its installed capacity and reinforce its global leadership in offshore wind. Ørsted has already deployed 18.5 GW of renewable energy globally and operates more than 5 GW of offshore wind in the UK.
“With today’s announcement, we continue to deliver on our farm-down programme with a transaction that meets our strategic objectives for partnerships and divestments in terms of value creation, risk diversification, and capital recycling,” Westlie added.
Schroders Greencoat now holds stakes in five Ørsted-operated offshore wind projects, including Walney, Burbo Bank Extension, Hornsea 1, and Borkum Riffgrund 1.

“West of Duddon Sands represents an excellent asset with strong, inflation-protected cash flows, which should perform robustly in what is currently a volatile market,” said Minal Patel, Global Head of Infrastructure at Schroders Capital.
“By investing in established assets like West of Duddon Sands, we position ourselves to achieve secure returns while contributing to the decarbonization of power generation and supporting sustainable infrastructure development.”

With GBP 9.6 billion in assets under management and a renewable generating capacity exceeding 7 GW, Schroders Greencoat is actively consolidating its position as a major institutional player in clean energy infrastructure.
This deal exemplifies a broader market trend: institutional investors seeking stable, inflation-linked returns through mature renewable assets, while developers like Ørsted redeploy capital into high-growth clean energy projects.
