SAP is transforming enterprise sustainability from compliance to competitive advantage through embedded AI and unified data solutions.
At its annual Sapphire event, SAP unveiled a sweeping set of innovations designed to make sustainability an actionable, strategic asset across the C-suite—from COOs and CFOs to CIOs and CROs.
“Organizations often don’t realize how much sustainability data is already at their fingertips, hidden in procurement logs, operational systems, and supplier records,” said Sophia Mendelsohn, Chief Sustainability and Commercial Officer at SAP. “We’re introducing new tools that help companies uncover the data they didn’t know they had, so they can unify them in one system and act on it more effectively.”

Turning Sustainability Data Into Action
SAP’s latest release includes new AI-powered tools embedded into core enterprise systems such as SAP S/4HANA and SAP Sustainability Control Tower (SCT). These tools automate high-friction workflows and integrate sustainability metrics into financial, operational, and strategic decisions.
Starting August 2025, beta users will access:
AI-assisted permit management for EHS, automating compliance workflows.
Conversational incident reporting using Joule, SAP’s AI copilot.
AI-generated safety instructions based on risk data.
Automated compliance processing for sustainability declarations.
These tools will be part of SAP’s SCM premium package, offering embedded AI that supports real-time action and audit-ready reporting.

Real-World Impact Across the Enterprise
SAP customers are already seeing results:
Sustainability Control Tower uses AI to auto-generate ESG reports with editable templates and visualizations.
SAP Sustainability Footprint Management automates emission factor mapping across lifecycle databases.
SAP Green Token validates ISCC PLUS supplier declarations through AI-driven data extraction.
“What’s missing is not awareness, but actionable, decision-grade sustainability data worthy of sitting alongside financial and operational metrics,” SAP stated.
Data and Process Integration at Scale
By the second half of 2025, SAP Sustainability Control Tower will be fully integrated into the SAP Business Data Cloud, bringing sustainability data into the same analytical environment as enterprise KPIs.
New data products will deliver:
Validated emissions data (air, water, wastewater)
Expanded footprint metrics across supply chains
Curated datasets with governance and structure
This will enable C-suites to drive strategy from a unified source of truth.
Aligning Processes with Environmental Strategy
Beginning in Q4 2025, SAP Signavio Process Transformation Suite will embed sustainability impact metrics into process models and analytics tools. Businesses can:
Use SAP Signavio Value Accelerators for regulation-ready process templates
Leverage SAP Signavio Process Intelligence to identify carbon-reducing process improvements
“Sustainability now intersects every critical business function,” SAP emphasized. “Its application to business processes prepares organizations for their agentic AI future.”
Bottom Line:
SAP is moving sustainability from the sidelines into the operational core—equipping businesses with AI, data, and process intelligence to unlock ESG performance at scale. For investors and leaders, it’s no longer about if sustainability matters—but how fast your systems can act on it.
