Petrol sales rise 6.4% in June, diesel up 1.2%, LPG posts 10.2% growth, ET EnergyWorld

New Delhi: Petrol sales in the country grew by 6.43 per cent year-on-year to 3,508 thousand metric tonnes (TMT) in June 2025, from 3,296 TMT in June 2024, while diesel consumption rose by 1.23 per cent to 8,081 TMT from 7,982 TMT in the same period, data from the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC) showed.

LPG consumption recorded a double-digit growth of 10.16 per cent during the month to 2,642 TMT from 2,399 TMT in the year-ago period. On a two-year basis, LPG demand grew 15.93 per cent and surged 48.90 per cent compared to June 2019 levels, according to the flash report.

ATF (Aviation Turbine Fuel) consumption also increased by 3.57 per cent to 732 TMT in June 2025, as against 707 TMT in June 2024. Over a two-year period, ATF sales rose 13.99 per cent, and by 12.70 per cent compared to pre-COVID levels in June 2019.

Cumulative petrol sales for the April–June 2025 quarter stood at 10,740 TMT, an increase of 6.93 per cent over 10,044 TMT in the corresponding period of FY 2024. Diesel consumption in the same quarter rose by 2.54 per cent to 24,938 TMT, up from 24,319 TMT during April–June 2024.

During the April–June quarter, LPG consumption reached 8,055 TMT, registering a growth of 10.1 per cent compared to 7,316 TMT during the same period in the previous year. ATF consumption during the quarter grew by 3.95 per cent to 2,280 TMT, from 2,193 TMT a year ago.

The compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of petrol from June 2019 to June 2025 stood at 4.86 per cent, diesel at 1.36 per cent, ATF at 2.01 per cent, and LPG at 6.86 per cent.

The data also showed that petrol consumption was 11.30 per cent higher than June 2023, and 32.95 per cent higher than June 2019. Diesel sales were 2.21 per cent higher than June 2023, and 8.44 per cent above June 2019 levels. ATF and LPG recorded significant gains over both short-term and long-term comparisons.
