Sustainability software solutions provider One Click LCA announced today the acquisition of life-cycle assessment (LCA) platform SimaPro and its developer, PRé Sustainability, with the transaction aimed at providing solutions for companies to assess and reduce product carbon footprints and comply with regulations.
According to One Click LCA, the transaction comes as demand is increasing for high-quality sustainability data, with the ability to access and create product-specific LCA data becoming critical for industry to reduce CO2e emissions and comply with new regulations, such as the EU Construction Products Regulation, Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, and Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation.
Panu Pasanen, CEO & Founder of One Click LCA, said:
“This is a pivotal moment in scaling the use of LCA. SimaPro has set the benchmark for transparency in LCA for 30 years, while One Click LCA has focused on making LCA scalable, accessible, and actionable. By joining forces, we can meet the growing global demand for high-quality sustainability data — from research labs to global supply chains — and accelerate progress toward a zero-carbon future.”
Founded in 2021, Finland-based One Click LCA provides an AI-powered software platform for construction and manufacturing enabling users to generate automated LCA and environmental product declarations (EPDs) to calculate and reduce the environmental impacts of building, infrastructure, and renovation projects and products, as well as to assess circularity, life-cycle cost, and biodiversity.
Netherlands-based SimaPro and PRé Sustainability were founded in 1990, and provide solutions to help businesses quantify, understand, and reduce their environmental impact. SimaPro’s key solutions include SimaPro Craft, which provides advanced modeling for LCA experts, and SimaPro Synergy enables seamless data integration and environmental impact calculations at scale.
One Click LCA said that the acquisition will enable it to provide a “one-stop-shop for LCA and sustainability,” with an ambition to reach 1 million users by 2035. The new joint platform now includes more than 500,000 datasets across construction, manufacturing supply chains, chemicals, and other sectors and serves users in over 170 countries, and brings together One Click LCA’s automation, scalability, and integration capabilities with SimaPro’s industry-agnostic LCA modeling and PRé’s expertise and consulting services, the company added.
The companies said that the new combined offering will enable faster, easier, and more robust compliance with the regulatory frameworks, and provide tailored sectoral solutions addressing the construction, manufacturing, consumer, and infrastructure sectors, among others.
Eric Mieras, Managing Director of PRé Sustainability, said:
“Joining One Click LCA enables us to accelerate PRé Sustainability’s mission to scale LCA. We can now bring our scientific rigor and LCA robustness to a far wider audience, backed by the powerful technology and ease-of-use of One Click LCA.”
