New Delhi: As tensions escalate between India and Pakistan, public sector oil companies on Monday moved swiftly to reassure citizens of uninterrupted fuel availability and stable operations. With rising speculation over possible disruptions in fuel supply, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) issued public appeals to avoid panic buying of petrol, diesel, and LPG.

IndianOil, India’s largest fuel retailer, said it has sufficient stock of fuel across the country and all its distribution and supply chains are functioning normally.

“IndianOil has ample fuel stocks across the country and our supply lines are operating smoothly. There is no need for panic buying—fuel and LPG is readily available at all our outlets. Help us serve you better by staying calm and avoiding unnecessary rush. This will keep our supply lines running seamlessly and ensure uninterrupted fuel access for all,” IndianOil said in a post on X.

The advisory comes amid long queues reported at some filling stations in parts of Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir and Rajasthan following speculation over potential supply disruptions due to ongoing tension.

Echoing similar confidence, BPCL also stated that its fuel stations and LPG distributorships are operating smoothly and are fully equipped to meet consumer demand.

“Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), a Fortune Global 500 company, and one of India’s leading oil and gas companies, assures all citizens that sufficient Petrol, Diesel, CNG, and LPG is available across its vast nationwide network. All BPCL fuel stations and LPG distributorships, across its nationwide network are operating smoothly and are fully equipped to meet the energy needs of consumers,” the company said in an official statement.

“There is no cause for concern or panic buying. Our supply chain operations remain robust and efficient, ensuring uninterrupted supplies. We urge all customers to remain calm. BPCL remains steadfast in its commitment to energy accessibility and reliability,” the statement added.

IndianOil and BPCL together operate more than 70,000 fuel stations and LPG distribution centres across the country, making them the backbone of India’s energy distribution network. Their logistics systems are supported by automated fuel depots, pipelines and bulk transportation hubs that can continue operations even during emergencies.

Sources in the Petroleum Ministry said the fuel sector is well-prepared to handle strategic emergencies. “There are enough fuel reserves to meet current demand patterns, and OMCs [Oil Marketing Companies] have been directed to maintain daily monitoring and report localised surges in demand,” a senior ministry official said.
