New ESG Guide Offers 137 Practical Steps for Charities and SMEs to Start Sustainability

Actionable Entry Point: New 40-page guide provides 137 low-cost, easy-to-implement ESG tips tailored for resource-constrained charities and SMEs.

Practical Over Theory: Designed to eliminate ESG jargon, the book empowers small organisations with a logic-based model and real-world advice.

Strategic Value: Helps smaller entities begin sustainability reporting and embed long-term resilience through Environmental, Social, and Governance practices.

A new book by sustainability expert Adam Reutens-Tan aims to eliminate complexity and make ESG implementation achievable for small organisations. “ESG Sustainability Made Easy for Charities and SMEs” distills core Environmental, Social, and Governance principles into a clear, accessible 40-page guide.

“Too many guides speak at organisations rather than to them,” says Reutens-Tan. “Charities and SMEs don’t need another framework to be overwhelmed by—they need real-world, applicable advice they can begin implementing tomorrow.”

Singapore’s 300,000 SMEs and 2,300 charities often operate on lean budgets and minimal staff, making ESG adoption seem out of reach. This publication directly addresses that challenge.

“In my conversations with small organisations, I kept hearing the same thing: ‘We want to do something, but we don’t know where to start.’ This book is my response to that,” Reutens-Tan explains.

The book offers 137 practical tips—from low-effort operational changes like combining fans with air-conditioning, to engaging suppliers on sustainable sourcing. It also introduces a logic-based model that integrates sustainability thinking into existing workflows.

“Change doesn’t have to be expensive or disruptive,” Reutens-Tan notes. “Sometimes, it’s just a matter of seeing where improvements can be made in daily operations. That’s why every tip in this book is designed to be accessible.”

It also includes a basic framework for drafting a sustainability report—an increasingly critical component of transparency and accountability, even for smaller entities.

“This book isn’t just for ticking boxes or earning green points. It’s about embedding values that align with long-term resilience—for the planet and the organisation.”

The guide has earned praise from leaders across the social sector:

“Adam’s book makes it easy, accessible and practical for SSAs of all sizes. We highly recommend this book to any charity looking to enhance its impact through ESG.”
— Felicia Wee, Deputy Executive Director, Metta Welfare Association

“Embedding ESG principles in charities isn’t just about compliance—it’s about creating lasting impact. ESG is not an obligation—it’s an opportunity to lead by example.”
— Tracey Goh, Philanthropic Consultant

“Packed with practical advice, it provides clear steps to integrate ESG into operations. Perfect for organisations looking to embrace sustainability.”
— Liz Pickett, Social Worker, National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (UK)

Reutens-Tan, who also delivers pro bono ESG workshops for charities, encourages leaders to consider sustainability not as a burden, but as an opportunity for innovation and impact.

The book is available as a free download at www.adamreutens-tan.com and will also be accessible at Singapore’s National Library.
