Major Biofuel Milestone: Moeve’s largest marine biofuel supply deal to date—40,000 tons—will support maritime decarbonization in the Canary Islands through 2025.
First in Region: Marks Moeve’s first renewable fuel delivery in the Canary Islands, reinforcing its leadership in Spain’s green maritime fuel market.
Immediate Emission Impact: 2G biofuels can cut lifecycle CO₂ emissions by up to 90% and require no infrastructure upgrades.
Moeve has signed a landmark agreement with Grupo Armas Trasmediterránea to supply 40,000 tons of second-generation (2G) marine biofuels through the end of 2025. The long-term contract, with extension potential into 2026, represents Moeve’s largest biofuel delivery to date and its first in the Canary Islands.
The agreement underscores both companies’ deep-rooted commitment to the region’s energy transition. Moeve and Armas Trasmediterránea have operated in the Canary Islands for nearly a century and are now positioning themselves as leaders in sustainable maritime transport.
“The agreement with Grupo Armas Trasmediterránea opens a major door for us, positioning us as a key player in the decarbonization of the maritime sector in the Canary Islands,” said Samir Fernández, Director of Marine Fuel Solutions at Moeve. “We are determined to continue expanding across Spanish territory, strengthening our leadership in the production and sale of marine biofuels.”
Armas Trasmediterránea is using this milestone to accelerate its sustainability agenda.
“We’re not starting from scratch—we’ve been implementing measures to reduce our environmental footprint for years, from route optimization to becoming pioneers in the use of biofuels,” said Sergio Vélez, CEO of Armas Trasmediterránea. “It’s not only our natural working environment, it’s also a heritage we have the responsibility to preserve.”

The partnership is also backed by port authorities in the region.
Beatriz Calzada, President of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, said the deal “aligns perfectly with our strategy to transition toward green fuels. Our goal is to deliver operational excellence and offer a diverse range of services to our clients.”
Pedro Suárez, President of the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, added: “This first fuel supply marks a key milestone toward enabling more sustainable port calls and a more competitive port overall.”

Moeve will supply the biofuels from its San Roque Energy Park in Cádiz and La Rábida Energy Park in Huelva. Already active in major Spanish ports like Algeciras, Barcelona, Ceuta, and Huelva, the company leverages its nationwide infrastructure to provide sustainable fuel solutions at scale.
These 2G renewable biofuels—made from waste and residual raw materials—offer immediate decarbonization benefits for hard-to-electrify sectors like maritime transport. They’re compatible with existing engines and infrastructure, eliminating the need for costly upgrades and enabling rapid adoption.
This move aligns with Moeve’s Positive Motion 2030 strategy, through which the company aims to lead sustainable mobility across air, sea, and land transport. Moeve targets an annual production capacity of 2.5 million tons of biofuels, becoming the top producer in Spain and Portugal by the end of the decade.
