The company has executed refinery expansions, petrochemical complexes, gas processing plants, fertiliser units, LNG terminals and cross-country pipelines across multiple geographies, it added.

Larsen & Toubro’s Hydrocarbon Onshore business on Tuesday said that it secured a major engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) order from Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) for a polyethylene project at Bina in Madhya Pradesh.

Larsen & Toubro classifies major orders as contracts valued between ₹5,000 crore and ₹10,000 crore.

The scope of work includes setting up a Linear Low-Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) and High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) swing unit comprising two trains of 575 kilo tonnes per annum each.

The project will be executed on a lump-sum turnkey basis and is expected to be India’s largest LLDPE/HDPE swing unit, marking a new benchmark in domestic polyethylene production capacity, L&T said.

The project is part of BPCL’s Bina Petrochemicals and Refinery Expansion Project, which aims to establish a large petrochemical complex and expand the refinery’s capacity from 7.8 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) to around 11 MMTPA.

The project aligns with the Government of India’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative by strengthening domestic polymer manufacturing and reducing import dependence, the company said.

Subramanian Sarma, Deputy Managing Director and President, L&T, said the project would strengthen the company’s balance sheet and reinforce its credentials in the downstream hydrocarbon EPC segment.

E S Sathyanarayanan, Senior Vice President and IC Head of L&T Energy Hydrocarbon – Onshore, said the order reflected customer confidence in L&T’s execution capabilities, adding that the company remains committed to delivering the project while maintaining high standards of health, safety and quality.

L&T’s hydrocarbon onshore business is among India’s largest EPC players, providing lump-sum turnkey solutions across the upstream, midstream, and downstream segments, the company said.

The company has executed refinery expansions, petrochemical complexes, gas processing plants, fertiliser units, LNG terminals and cross-country pipelines across multiple geographies, it added.
