Jupiter Electric Mobility launches Indian-made C&I battery

Jupiter Electric Mobility (JEM), part of the Jupiter Group, has launched a designed-in-India containerized battery energy storage system (BESS) offering capacities ranging from 241 kWh to 3 MWh.

These modular, rack-based systems are housed in 10 ft (241 kWh to 964 kWh) and 20 ft containers, for ease of transportation and robust performance in harsh operating conditions. The systems can be deployed across diverse clean energy applications, including diesel generator replacement, solar storage, energy shifting, and backup power for the commercial & industrial (C&I) segment.

The BESS are equipped with air-cooled batteries and are fully built in-house — from container fabrication to battery manufacturing and system integration. “This marks one of the few vertically integrated approaches in the energy storage system (ESS) segment in India,” stated JEM.

JEM is supplying its first 10-foot BESS to Greenlit – a Mumbai-based subsidiary of Recube and a company driving decarbonization in the events, entertainment, and hospitality sectors. It has partnered with GMMCO, a CKA Birla Group company and an energy solutions provider, to launch containerized BESS across India.

Marking its entry into global markets, JEM will also export its first 20 ft BESS unit to Africa in October and will also soon be launching liquid-cooled BESS systems for grid-scale usage.

To support growing C&I and utility market demand, JEM will scale its Indore plant from a capacity of 1 GWh, annually, to 5 GWh in the next three years.

“With the launch of our modular 10 ft and 20 ft containerized battery energy storage systems, JEM marks an important milestone in our battery division,” said Vivek Lohia, managing director of Jupiter Group. “Designed ground-up with capacities from 241 kWh to 3 MWh, these systems highlight our in-house design, engineering, and manufacturing strength. Built to stringent IEC [International Electrotechnical Commission] standards, with certifications in place and system-level approvals underway, we see this segment scaling rapidly and emerging as a cornerstone of India’s clean energy future.”

Pankaj Kumar Jha, senior vice president for the energy and transportation business at GMMCO Ltd, said, “At GMMCO, we are proud to partner with JEM to launch containerized battery energy storage systems. With our pan-India reach and energy expertise, we look forward to helping industries transition to sustainable, round-the-clock clean power.”

Arshad Nawaz, deputy general manager at GMMCO Ltd, added, “The BESS will enable reliable, round-the-clock clean energy supply and backup, strengthening the C&I industry’s efforts to lower its carbon footprint.”
