Jameel Motors and China’s GAC have formed a joint venture to launch the AION V SUV and AION UT hatchback in the UK. The move expands Jameel’s passenger EV portfolio and marks GAC’s debut in the British market.
In June, every fourth new car in the UK was electric. Moreover, the country reintroduced EV subsidies, which should help with EV uptake there even more. That is why GAC and Jameel Motors consider the time right to hit the road there.
The partnership between Jameel Motors and GAC seeks to capitalise on this market growth. Initially, two all-electric models will be available: the AION V, a C-segment SUV, and the AION UT, a B-segment hatchback. First customer deliveries are scheduled for the end of Q1 2026 through selected retail partners.
Just a reminder: The Aion V is an electric SUV (read our driving report here), while GAC launched the compact Aion UT in China earlier this year. It is powered by a 100 kW front electric motor, which is combined with a battery pack with a capacity of between 34.9 kWh and 44.3 kWh.
The agreement marks Jameel Motors’ expansion from distributing electric commercial vehicles to entering the passenger EV segment in the UK. Jameel Motors already distributes Farizon Auto in the market and recently secured GAC distribution rights in Poland after a competitive process. The joint venture is subject to regulatory and antitrust approvals.
