InstaVolt has secured a 40-year lease to develop a major ultra-rapid charging hub with 30 charge points on the A303 in Wiltshire. The site, set to open in spring 2026, will include large-scale solar and battery storage, as well as food and retail amenities from a leading UK operator.

The project is located in Cricklade, ten miles west of Stonehenge on the Fonthill Estate and is designed to serve the A303 corridor, a key route within the UK’s Strategic Road Network. The Government and National Highways have recently prioritised this route for enhanced EV infrastructure visibility, including new signage to indicate available chargepoints and increase awareness among non-EV drivers.

“This peaceful stop will become a vital charging destination along the A303 – a very popular and busy route – powered by the latest in renewable energy innovation,” said InstaVolt CEO Delvin Lane. “With 30 ultra-rapid chargers and an on-site farm shop and café, Chicklade is the next step in our mission to combine scale, sustainability and convenience.”

The new site follows the model of InstaVolt’s Winchester Superhub and will integrate on-site battery storage and solar generation, enabling periods of discounted charging. This system previously allowed Winchester users to access energy at rates as low as 50p per kWh. The hub opened in March and features on-site solar farms and 4 MW of “cutting-edge battery storage technology” on-site solar farms and 4 MW of “cutting-edge battery storage technology”. At the time, the CPO stated that once completed, the solar farm will feature “870 solar panels and the site will use a mixture of solar energy, battery storage, and renewable grid power to keep chargers running at optimum capacity.”

Planning consent and a grid connection are already in place. InstaVolt has worked with the Fonthill Estate and its advisors over a two-year period to finalise the development. Construction will kick off next month.
