India’s Fuel Consumption Up 3% in November 2025 with Crude Output Growth, ETEnergyworld

New Delhi: India’s indigenous crude oil and condensate production stood at 2.3 million tonnes (MMT) in November 2025, recording a 2.6 per cent growth over the same month last year, according to the latest Snapshot of India’s Oil & Gas data. Of the total production, around 76 per cent came from nomination fields, 13.4 per cent from Pre-NELP fields, and 10.4 per cent from NELP fields.

Crude processing rises, imports increase

Total crude oil processed during November 2025 was 22.3 MMT, about 2.3 per cent higher than November 2024. Public sector and joint venture refiners processed 15.1 MMT, while private refiners accounted for 7.3 MMT. Of the total crude processed, 2.1 MMT was indigenous crude, while 20.2 MMT was imported crude. Cumulative crude processing during April–November FY26 registered a 2.1 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.Crude oil imports rose 11.1 per cent in November 2025 and 2.4 per cent during April–November FY26 on a year-on-year basis.

Fuel production and consumption trends

Production of petroleum products during November 2025 was 23.3 MMT, marginally 0.2 per cent lower than a year ago. Of this, 23.0 MMT came from refineries and 0.3 MMT from fractionators. In the cumulative period of April–November FY26, petroleum product output posted growth compared to the same period of the previous year.

In November, high-speed diesel (HSD) accounted for 41.5 per cent of total product output, followed by motor spirit (18.1 per cent), naphtha (6.5 per cent), pet coke (5.4 per cent), and LPG (4.4 per cent), with the balance comprising bitumen, FO/LSHS, LDO, lubes and others.

POL imports and exports

Imports of petroleum products declined 8.6 per cent in November 2025 and 0.6 per cent during April–November FY26 compared to the corresponding period last year, largely due to lower imports of fuel oil, motor spirit and pet coke.

Exports of petroleum products fell 1.7 per cent in November 2025, while showing a 0.4 per cent increase during April–November FY26, supported by higher exports of high-speed diesel, motor spirit and naphtha.

Domestic fuel demand stays positive

Domestic consumption of petroleum products rose 3 per cent in November 2025. Cumulative consumption for the fiscal remained positive, increasing 1.4 per cent to 160.1 MMT during April–November FY26, compared to 158 MMT in the same period last year. Growth was driven by LPG (7.6 per cent), motor spirit (6.3 per cent), and high-speed diesel (2.8 per cent).

Gas and LNG snapshot

Total natural gas consumption in November 2025 was 5,707 MMSCM, about 1 per cent higher than the corresponding month last year. Cumulative gas consumption for the fiscal till November was 46,239 MMSCM, lower by 6.1 per cent year-on-year.

Gross natural gas production during November stood at 2,900 MMSCM, down 2.4 per cent from a year ago, while cumulative production till November was 23,439 MMSCM, a 3.3 per cent decline.

LNG imports rose 4.9 per cent in November 2025 to 2,844 MMSCM, though cumulative LNG imports during April–November FY26 were 8.9 per cent lower than the same period last year.

Ethanol blending

Ethanol blending in petrol was reported at 20 per cent in November 2025, while cumulative blending during ESY 2024–25 stood at 19.2 per cent.
