On May 8, 2025, Alkeymia presented its groundbreaking green hydrogen and ammonia production project to the residents of Caspe (Zaragoza), with the participation of Javier Martínez, the Director General of Economic Policy of the Government of Aragon. This €400 million project, which received a Regional Interest declaration in October 2024, aims to contribute significantly to Aragon’s energy transition and decarbonization goals. The Hydrogen and Ammonia Production Plant will be located at the El Portal industrial estate in Caspe and is expected to begin construction in 2026, with operations phased in through 2028.
Alkeymia will produce 25,000 tons of green hydrogen and 165,000 tons of green ammonia annually, with plans to integrate the green hydrogen into the Enagás Hydrogen Trunk Network via a new 8-kilometer pipeline. This pipeline will ensure the efficient supply of hydrogen for industrial and transportation sectors. Rail transport will be utilized for ammonia distribution, strengthening sustainable logistics in the region.
In terms of employment, the project will create 750 direct and indirect jobs during construction and 60 direct jobs during the operational phase. This is a significant boost for the local economy of Caspe and the surrounding Bajo Aragón region. The plant will also serve as a green jobs hub and foster public-private collaboration.
