The Portuguese Government has approved funding for 17 projects focused on the production of hydrogen and renewable gases, with a total investment of €70 million. The initiative is part of the REPowerEU regulation and is financed through the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), managed by the Environmental Fund under the Ministry of Environment and Energy.
The selected projects were chosen through a competitive process based on strict technical criteria, including decarbonisation potential, investment efficiency, territorial impact, technical capacity, and innovation. The call for proposals was open to both public and private companies.
Among the beneficiaries are companies such as Mota-Engil Bioenergy, Recivalongo, Bioenergia GBP I, AGERE, Laboratórios Basi, PTSunHydrogen, Paradigma Milenar, Símbolo Exigente, Sãra Green Energy, H2Zone, and La Sabina Green Energies.
This investment builds on previous initiatives funded by the PRR and aims to significantly expand Portugal’s capacity for green hydrogen production. It responds directly to the energy crisis of 2022 while aligning with the European Union’s climate and energy goals.
“Portugal is clearly contributing to the new geopolitics of clean energy. This public investment is another firm step towards the country’s energy independence and a boost to national innovation,” said the Minister for Environment and Energy, Maria da Graça Carvalho.
