New Delhi: Honeywell has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NTPC Green to explore the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in India using carbon dioxide (CO₂) captured from NTPC’s power plants and green hydrogen as feedstock.
As part of the agreement, the companies will study the potential use of Honeywell’s proprietary eFining™ technology for converting the captured CO₂ and green hydrogen into SAF. The collaboration aims to support decarbonization objectives in the aviation sector and align with India’s broader energy security goals.
“SAF production forms the sizeable part of the ambitious Green Hydrogen Hub of NTPC Green in Pudimadaka, Andhra Pradesh. We believe that the mandate in the aviation sector for blending SAF in jet fuel will drive many early mover projects in green hydrogen,” said DMR Panda, Executive Director (Green Hydrogen), NTPC Ltd.
The initiative brings together Honeywell UOP’s experience in SAF production and NTPC’s role in developing green hydrogen infrastructure. SAF is being increasingly used globally to help reduce emissions in the aviation sector.

The study is expected to be completed by mid-2025. The findings will contribute to India’s dual objective of becoming a production and export hub for sustainable aviation fuel and achieving its emission reduction targets.
