With artificial intelligence poised to become the defining force of global competitiveness, the Hamm Institute for American Energy has announced the launch of the American Energy + AI Initiative, a coordinated effort to ensure the United States has the power it needs to lead the AI era.

As the demand for high-density computing accelerates, American energy must meet the increased power demands of AI data centers. From inference engines to training models, every AI breakthrough is underpinned by energy, and the U.S. must build the infrastructure and supply chain to meet that demand with secure, dispatchable power.

“America can’t just compete, we must lead,” said Dr. Ann Bluntzer Pullin, executive director of the Hamm Institute. “Energy and AI are essential for national security. This initiative, with input from tech and energy leaders, is about ensuring the U.S. has a clear, actionable path forward.”

The American Energy + AI Initiative brings together government, energy, technology and academia to deliver a focused action plan that calls for:

Accelerated Deployment of Dispatchable Energy: Unleashing reliable, stable American energy, including natural gas, advanced nuclear and geothermal, to meet the explosive growth in AI demand.
Grid Modernization: Collaborating with utilities and private sector innovators to strengthen transmission systems and ensure reliability at scale.
AI + Energy Innovation: Launching AI testbeds and real-world energy research and development through the Hamm Institute Lab in Oklahoma City.
Resilient Supply Chains: Reshoring critical manufacturing for energy and digital infrastructure components to reduce foreign dependence.
Workforce Readiness: Training a new generation of engineers, operators and coders equipped to lead in an AI-powered energy economy.

The initiative is a direct outcome of the Powering AI: Global Leadership Summit, held in April and attended by four U.S. Cabinet officials, energy CEOs and top technologists. Through this initiative, the Hamm Institute will continue to convene national roundtables and deploy pilot projects to test scalable, replicable energy and AI solutions.

Leading power companies, manufacturers and tech investors are exploring ways to plug into the initiative, with new investments and strategic alliances expected to be announced in the coming months.

The next phase includes roundtable sessions in Washington, D.C., Oklahoma City, Denver and California, where the initiative’s blueprint will be expanded into implementation tracks.
