Gravity brings 500 kW EV charging to Los Angeles

Gravity unveils plans for eight ultra-fast charging sites in the LA area, offering 500 kW speeds, autonomous-vehicle-ready infrastructure and grid-resilient technology. The first sites will go live before the end of the year.

US EV charging specialist Gravity has announced plans to launch eight ultra-fast charging sites across Greater Los Angeles, each offering speeds of up to 500 kW—twice that of Tesla’s Superchargers. The new locations, set to open in 2025, will be spread across underserved high-speed charging areas, including Pacific Palisades, Manhattan Beach, East Pasadena and Long Beach.

Each site will host approximately 12 of Gravity’s proprietary 500 kW Distributed Energy Access Points (DEAPs), which the company first deployed in New York City earlier this year. Gravity says its technology offers universal compatibility across vehicle brands and has already delivered the fastest charging speeds recorded in the US.

It has a hinged swing arm that can be pulled down to connect the cable to the vehicle. When the company first presented the technology last year, it said that “the arm raises automatically and the EV connector seamlessly latches back onto the pole and out of sight” once charging is completed. The reason behind the design is simple. This way, passers-by won’t trip on the cable, and the plug can reach the inlet of every make or model of EV.

Designed with the future in mind, the sites will also be ready to host autonomous vehicles, featuring dedicated lanes, sensor arrays and cableless charging systems. Gravity is further equipping all sites with bi-directional V2G technology, allowing for megawatt-scale energy discharge to support local grids during emergencies.

“These new 500 kW sites are going to be a game-changer for Los Angelenos. They will be far faster and more reliable than anything drivers and fleet operators have experienced, with autonomous vehicle engineering and vehicle-to-grid equipment that will make them the most advanced sites in the nation”, said Moshe Cohen, Founder and CEO of Gravity.

Backed by a national real estate partner, Gravity plans to scale its network to hundreds of additional locations nationwide. The company has so far been mainly active in New York City, where it opened a charge park with 500 kW chargers in March last year.
