Solaris has signed a contract with the Municipality of Gdańsk, Poland, for the delivery of 30 battery-electric buses. The order includes 18 Solaris Urbino 12 and 12 articulated Urbino 18 vehicles, all due to enter service by September 2026 with Gdańskie Autobusy i Tramwaje.
According to Solaris, the city has ordered Solaris models before. However, these will be the first zero-emission Solaris buses to hit the road there.
The 12-metre models will feature 600 kWh battery packs, while the articulated versions will carry larger systems with up to 800 kWh. Both types will charge via plug-in connectors, with two sockets per vehicle – one above the front right wheel arch and one on the left-hand side – to simplify depot operations. Solaris states that the energy storage capacity will allow “high operability on a single charge.”
The Urbino models for Gdańsk are the latest generation of Solaris buses, designed with a modular drive system that places the propulsion components on the roof rather than in a traditional engine tower. This increases passenger space and seating capacity. The 12-metre buses will carry up to 70 passengers, while the articulated versions will accommodate up to 107.
All buses will be fully low-floor, air-conditioned and compliant with the latest EU safety standards, including GSR2 and cybersecurity requirements. They will also integrate advanced driver assistance systems. These include driver distraction and fatigue monitoring, pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, and an intelligent speed assistant. In addition, the buses will replace traditional side mirrors with modern camera-based systems to improve visibility and safety.
