Sustainability-focused private markets investment manager Pegasus Capital Advisors announced the appointment of SASB founder and former Blackstone Global Head of ESG Jean Rogers as Senior Operating Advisor.

Founded in 1996, Stamford, Connecticut-based Pegasus specializes in blended sustainable investments across climate, food, water, and ocean ecosystems. Blended finance brings together public or philanthropic capital and private funding through a common investment structure, enabling investors to invest in certain types of investments that have high perceived risk profiles, such as new climate mitigation-related technologies. The firm is the investment manager of the Subnational Climate Fund and the Global Fund for Coral Reefs and partners with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to deliver projects and support companies across the Global South, and was the first North American private equity firm accredited by the Green Climate Fund.

David Cogut, Co-Managing Partner at Pegasus Capital, said:

“At Pegasus, we’re about two things: generating great returns for our LPs and great impact for communities around the world. Jean brings world-class leadership in sustainable finance and governance, and a commitment to driving investments that build stronger communities, better infrastructure, and lasting value.”

Rogers joins Pegasus after serving as Global Head of ESG at alternative investment manager Blackstone, where she was responsible for guiding private equity and credit investments to align with climate and sustainability priorities, and helped to deploy over $12 billion into energy transition and climate solutions globally.

Prior to joining Blackstone, she served as founded the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) in 2011, serving as CEO for six years, and subsequently was Chair of the Board until 2018. SASB was established with a mission to establish industry-specific ESG disclosure standards for companies, designed to enable investors to assess the materiality of reported sustainability information, and to compare companies on these metrics on a global basis. SASB was consolidated into the IFRS Foundation’s International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) in 2022.

In her new role, Rogers will serve on the investment committees of the Subnational Climate Fund and the Global Fund for Coral Reefs, helping to guide investment decisions, governance, and impact reporting. Pegasus added that Rogers will help drive the firm’s next phase of growth, scaling investments in sustainable infrastructure, renewable energy, agriculture, and nature-based projects.

Rogers said:

“”Pegasus Capital has been working in emerging markets to strengthen agriculture, energy infrastructure, water systems, and ocean health — while creating value for investors and jobs for communities— for decades, not just making promises. They put the unique needs of each development project first, not the limits of a fund, which is rare. Their success comes from the team’s deep expertise in these sectors and trusted relationships on the ground. I’m excited to help scale this important work in sustainable development and energy transition in the Global South at this defining moment of critical demand, thematic tailwinds and diversification benefits for investors.”
