EU-China Joint Climate Statement Marks New Phase in Green Cooperation
At the EU-China Summit in Beijing, held during the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties and the 10th anniversary of the Paris Agreement, the European Union and China released a joint press statement committing to deeper climate collaboration and renewed global leadership on climate action.
Reinforcing Multilateralism and the Paris Agreement
Leaders from both sides emphasized the importance of maintaining policy stability and continuity in an increasingly turbulent international context. They underscored the continued relevance of the UNFCCC and the Paris Agreement, reiterating the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities.
The statement affirms:
“Green is the defining color of China-EU cooperation… [and] both sides have a solid foundation and broad space for cooperation in the field of green transition.”

The EU and China committed to:
Submit updated 2035 Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) before COP30, aligning with the Paris Agreement’s long-term temperature goals.

Accelerate global deployment of renewable energy and access to green technologies, particularly in developing countries.
