A successful Energy NL Conference & Exhibition 2025 concluded Thursday after an informative and engaging discussion on the potential of the industry, indigenous participation in resource projects, trade and market diversification, regulations, and an update on the Bay du Nord Project.

The day began with an address from the Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Honourable John Hogan, who outlined his vision for the Newfoundland and Labrador energy industry, including supporting offshore exploration, finalizing an agreement on developing the Churchill River, and bringing to fruition onshore wind projects. Premier Hogan’s speech was followed by a talk from Goldy Hyder, the President and CEO of the Business Council of Canada, who spoke to the need to take advantage of the current “hinge moment” in Canada to develop our natural resources.

Tore Løseth, Country Director for Equinor Canada, provided an update on the Bay du Nord Project, including telling those in attendance that a contract for the FPSO will be awarded this summer. Session discussions of the day focused on market diversification and trade and included a presentation on trade activities and the Port of Argentia, along with a discussion on the impacts of regulatory processes on attracting investment.

The conference concluded with a lunchtime fireside chat between Clint Davis, CEO of Cedar Leaf Capital, and Charlene Johnson, CEO of Energy NL. Clint discussed why organizations should engage with Indigenous communities and businesses, including equity participation, and how to commence doing so.

“The Energy NL Conference & Exhibition 2025 was an overwhelming success, and I would like to thank the hundreds of Energy NL members for attending, along with the exceptional speakers who participated and made our discussions informative and engaging,” said Jeremy Whittle, COO of Crosbie. “I would also like to thank the sponsors and volunteers who helped make the conference such as success, along with staff of Energy NL. Our week would not have been possible without the exceptional agenda led by our Conference Program Committee and I thank them for the invaluable contribution they made, bringing their experience and knowledge to our planning, as well as to their organizations for supporting their involvement.”

“It is hard to believe that another Energy NL Conference & Exhibition has concluded, though I am thrilled with the energy present throughout the week and the engagement of our members,” said Charlene Johnson, Energy NL CEO. “Our sessions were insightful and those in attendance certainly learned a lot from a variety of topics that covered offshore oil and gas, hydroelectric projects, onshore wind to hydrogen projects, Indigenous participation in resource projects, technological innovation with the industry, and so much more. I am already looking forward to next year’s conference and the exciting milestones that will occur between now and then.”
