Encavis secures its first wind energy assets in Spain, accelerating its renewable diversification strategy.

The hybrid 199 MW portfolio is expected to generate 467 GWh annually, leveraging shared grid infrastructure for cost efficiency.

Biodiversity measures include real-time bird detection systems integrated across wind farms.

Encavis AG has acquired a 199 MW hybrid renewable energy portfolio from BayWa r.e., marking its first investment in wind assets in Spain and a major milestone in its technological diversification strategy.

The portfolio includes three wind farms and two photovoltaic plants located near Zaragoza in the Aragon region. Combined, the sites offer 142 MW of wind capacity and 57 MWp of solar, all connected via a shared grid infrastructure designed to reduce connection costs and maximize land use efficiency.

Each wind farm comprises eight Nordex N163 turbines, delivering 47.2 MW per site. Construction is currently underway, with all three wind farms scheduled for commissioning between Q4 2025 and Q1 2026. The two solar plants—rated at 32 MWp and 25 MWp—are on track for grid connection by Q4 2025.

“This acquisition demonstrates the group’s intention to position itself among the leading European renewable energy providers,” stated Encavis management, underscoring its commitment to expanding its market presence in Southern Europe.

The hybrid structure enables Encavis to pool resources, improve operational efficiency, and enhance energy output. Once operational, the portfolio is projected to generate nearly 467 GWh of electricity annually.

As part of its sustainability approach, the portfolio integrates IdentiFlight—an automated detection system that identifies and classifies bird species in real time, allowing turbines to adapt operations accordingly. The inclusion of this system supports Encavis’ broader biodiversity management initiatives.

BayWa r.e. emphasized the strategic significance of hybrid renewable projects in Europe, noting that the transaction highlights “the innovative nature of the model combining wind and solar in a single geographical area.”

All newly acquired assets will be centrally managed to drive operational synergies and optimize returns within the Spanish energy market.
