Logistics provider Dachser has taken delivery of seven eActros 600 trucks from Mercedes-Benz Trucks. The fully electric vehicles will be used for long-distance transport from several locations.
The handover of seven of the 15 eActros 600 trucks ordered took place recently at the Wörth am Rhein plant, as Daimler Truck has now announced. The vehicles are “part of the transformation process towards more sustainable logistics at Dachser” and will be used in the future at the Hamburg, Karlsruhe, Dortmund and Freiburg locations for long-distance transport in the logistics service provider’s general cargo network. The eight additional vehicles are to be delivered to Dachser locations and service partners in the coming months.
Daimler Truck does not specify in its announcement the specific routes between the locations that are to be served by the electric trucks. Their use is also no longer part of pilot projects or isolated test runs, but rather part of Dachser’s regular operations. The freight forwarder has extensive experience with electric trucks, having used electric vehicles of various weight classes in delivery transport for ten years; initially for last-mile deliveries, but now also for routes over 500 kilometres.
A total of over 140 electric trucks are already on the road for Dachser at various locations in Europe, including heavy electric trucks for long-distance transport. In February, the logistics company put around twelve fully electric MAN eTGX trucks into service. The Dachser Group has also gained a wealth of experience with the eActros 600: its subsidiary Brummer Logistik, a major player in the German-Austrian food logistics market, has had a dozen eActros 600s in its fleet since last year. At Brummer, the eActros 600s are used for medium-distance transport, covering up to 600 kilometres per trip, which means that charging stops are necessary along the route.
The eActros 600 is Daimler Truck’s electric long-haul truck and has been in series production in Wörth since November 2024. The vehicle has a 621 kWh battery (hence the model name 600) with robust LFP cells from CATL. With this battery size and the specially developed high-efficiency electric drive axle, the range is up to 500 kilometres without recharging, even when fully loaded. Depending on driving style and route, this range can also be “significantly exceeded,” according to Daimler Truck. With an intermediate charge during the legally required driver breaks, it should even be possible to cover ‘well over 1,000 kilometres’ per day.
The seven eActros 600 trucks that have now been handed over are in direct use at Dachser, not at Brummer, which is why Daimler Truck refers to them as the ‘first’ eActros 600 trucks for the major logistics company. “The handover of the first eActros 600 to Dachser is an important step on our joint path to emission-free logistics,” said Winfried Sorg, Centre Manager at the Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicle Centre in Neu-Ulm. “With the integration of the eActros 600 into regular operations, Dachser is sending out a strong signal for more sustainable transport solutions and underscoring its role as a driving force for the transition to emission-free logistics in Europe.”
Alexander Tonn, Chief Operations Officer (COO) Road Logistics at Dachser, added: “Increasing the use of e-trucks on long-distance routes is one of our priorities. We are consistently pushing forward with the practical use of trucks with zero-emission drives, and the eActros 600 is another important component for this.”
