Launched in December 2024, the internal program has helped grow the company’s female seafaring workforce from about 200 to 403 by the end of 2025. CMA CGM now says it wants to reach 1,000 women at sea by 2030.
The She Sails program was created to bring more women into maritime careers and support them once they are on board. The company says the effort focuses on recruiting, mentoring, and helping women move into higher-level roles across its global fleet.
“In just one year, our program has proven its effectiveness: the results exceed our expectations. More women are accessing key positions, their career paths are accelerating, their confidence is growing, and our teams are gaining in both diversity and performance. These achievements are a source of pride, but above all a responsibility: to continue our efforts, to go further, and to make equal opportunities a lasting reality across all our teams,” said Christine Cabau Woehrel, Executive Vice President in charge of Operations and Assets.
The company says the program is also driving career movement. In 2025, 74 promotions were recorded among women seafarers. That included eight promotions to senior officer roles, 48 moves from cadet to junior officer, and the company’s first-ever promotion from deckhand to qualified deckhand.
