ClimeFi has enabled more than $18 million in durable carbon removal purchases in its latest procurement round.

Total offtake commitments exceed 85,000 tonnes of CO₂ across eight removal pathways at an average price of $213 per tonne.

The round reflects growing diversification, longer-term contracting, and global scaling of carbon removal markets.

ClimeFi carbon removal procurement round expands market depth

The latest ClimeFi carbon removal procurement round has enabled more than $18 million in purchases of durable carbon removal, securing offtake commitments exceeding 85,000 tonnes of CO₂. The procurement spans eight distinct removal pathways, signaling continued expansion and diversification of the carbon removal market.

The average contracted price across the portfolio was $213 per tonne, with removals sourced through Biochar, Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage, Direct Air Capture and Storage, Enhanced Rock Weathering, Microbial Carbon Removal, Mineralisation, Terrestrial Biomass Sequestration, and Wastewater Alkalinity Enhancement.

Coordinated demand and buyer alignment

The purchases were executed through a coordinated procurement process designed to aggregate demand from multiple carbon removal buyers pursuing ambitious sustainability strategies. Over a six-month period, ClimeFi aligned buyer requirements and pooled demand, allowing participants to access preferential commercial terms and meaningful volume discounts.

ClimeFi said it will announce the specific buyer-project collaborations in the coming weeks, as individual client portfolios are finalised.

Supplier selection and due diligence

Suppliers included in client portfolios were selected following a structured request for proposal process conducted in the third quarter of 2025. Projects were evaluated based on submission quality, transparency, technical robustness, and alignment with client needs, alongside a minimum forecasted capacity of 20,000 tonnes for the 2026–2030 period.

Suppliers retained in the portfolios include Andes, BioCirc, Carboneers, CREW Carbon, DeepSky, Exomad Green, Graphyte, InPlanet, O.C.O. Technologies, and Vaulted Deep.

ClimeFi said it will continue to monitor selected projects on an ongoing basis, managing risks such as credit issuance delays and potential non-delivery.

Portfolio composition and delivery profile

The procurement round demonstrated significant diversification across removal pathways. Biochar accounted for the largest share at 28% of total volume, followed by Terrestrial Biomass Sequestration at 21%.

Fixed volume commitments span delivery years from 2026 to 2030, with a growing use of options extending through 2033. The majority of fixed commitments are scheduled for delivery in 2027 and 2028, reflecting a focus on medium-term scale-up.

Geographically, projects are distributed across four continents, with 71% of fixed volume commitments located in the Americas. Storage methods across the portfolio include stabilised biomass, mineralisation, and geological storage.

Scaling durable carbon removal

ClimeFi said the latest procurement round reflects increasing buyer confidence in durable carbon removal solutions and the need for long-term contracting to support project scale-up.

Sebastien Dewarrat, Co-Founder at ClimeFi, said: “We are delighted to share the news of our latest procurement round publicly. ClimeFi is honoured to work hand-in-hand with a number of forward-thinking buyers on scaling durable carbon removal. We look forward to announcing the specific details of the collaborations in the coming months.”

Outlook

As the market for durable carbon removal matures, coordinated procurement efforts such as the ClimeFi carbon removal procurement round are emerging as a key mechanism to unlock scale, diversify technologies, and improve price discovery. The combination of pooled demand, rigorous due diligence, and long-dated offtake commitments is increasingly shaping how buyers and suppliers engage in the next phase of carbon removal deployment.
